Changing lives through pilgrimage...
Pilgrimage holidays to Lourdes for children, young people and adults with social, emotional, and physical needs
Appropriate clothing
For clothes, remember: you know your child best! Please put enough clothes in for them for an entire week, with some spare additions, should they need to change. This includes any special items that your child might need.
Remember to pack something warm, a waterproof, some comfortable shoes for walking, some party clothes and a fancy dress outfit too. Your Group Leader will talk about this with you nearer the time.
Valid Passport
Please make sure that your child has a passport and that it is valid for travel when we go to Lourdes. This means that is will not expire until after we get back from Lourdes. If you have any questions about passports, please see your Group Leader. For more information about passports, please visit the UK Government website.
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
The EHIC enabled individuals to access healthcare in European Economic Area (EEA) countries, including France. It will cover any necessary treatment that your child may need when they are in Lourdes. It is compulsory for all individuals (children and helpers) travelling to Lourdes to hold a valid EHIC card.
They are really easy to get hold of. Simply apply for a free EHIC card via the NHS Website, which can be accessed here. For children under the age of 16, the parent or carer will have to apply on their behalf. You will need to know:
your child's full name
your child's date of birth
your child's national insurance (NI) or NHS number (CHI number in Scotland, or Health and Care Number in Northern Ireland)
Your card will normally arrive within seven days after your submit the application online. If you have any questions about this or are having problems applying, please see your Group Leader.
Money
Your child will only need money to buy presents to bring home for family and friends – there isn’t a Trafford Centre in Lourdes! Your group will give you a present and postcard list to fill in before we go to Lourdes.
We recommend around £30. Please get this changed into Euros before we go to Lourdes. If you are having trouble with this, please ask your child’s helper. We would recommend giving all monies to your child’s helper before we travel, just for safe keeping.
